SBI donates advanced diagnostic tool to Sankara Eye Hospital

Bengaluru, January 20, 2016: Ms. Rajni Mishra, Chief General Manager, Local Head Office, State Bank of India, Bangalore and Rotarian Nilesh, President Rotary Club of Bangalore IT Corridor; inaugurated a state of art ultrasound machine to be used to screen children for retinal conditions at Sankara Eye Hospital on 17th January,2016.

To be used in the operation theatre in infants and young children being evaluated for retinal diseases. This type of diagnostic tool is most helpful when there is difficulty examining the eye normally. One can gather a vast amount of information not possible with clinical examination alone.

‘The ultrasound B-scan donated by SBI is a much appreciated addition that will help in countering the time and space constraints. The Portable ultrasound equipment will increase the efficiency of diagnosis, and will bring more convenience to the effective treatment of children with retinal conditions including retinoblastoma (a retinal tumour)”, said Dr. P. Mahesh Shanmugam, Head of Department, Vitreoretinal & Ocular Oncology Services, Sankara Eye Hospitals, India.

The Ocular Oncology department at Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore is the first integrated ocular oncology centre in the state of Karnataka and treats over 50 children annually for various ocular tumours.
