Primary outcome measure of DNB programme at SECI is proficiency in diagnosis and management of eye diseases of public health importance and the common eye problems. The secondary measure is exposure to diagnosis and management of eyes related to various subspecialties, rare eye diseases and relevant systemic diseases. Additional outcome measure is participation in research, publication and presentations.
The knowledge and skill necessary to achieve the above measures, is imparted through
1) Posting in OPD, ward, OT, refraction unit, orthoptics and binocular vision units, lab and peripheral services;
2) Hands-on in clinical work-up, diagnostics, lab investigations and wet lab;
3) Participation in didactic lectures, seminars, interdisciplinary meetings, journal clubs and case presentations;
4) Participation in research, publication, professional meetings, workshops, conferences and CMEs.
The learning is facilitated through individual attention, flexible schedule, library, internet and everything in a clean, green, natural and serene atmosphere.

The Sankara Eye Foundation India Training Program in Ophthalmology is a highly regarded ophthalmology program in India. Its longstanding reputation derives from its association with state-of-the-art facilities, a full range of clinical and surgical experiences, and, most importantly, the sincere commitment of the faculty to resident education.
Residents are selected amongst those who have completed their post-graduation in ophthalmology from any of the centres recognized by the Medical Council of India. Residents benefit from hands-on surgical experience in all areas of specialization. The goal of the program is to train highly competent and ethical ophthalmologists who can contribute to the field and help reduce the burden of curable blindness.

Eligibility:
- Applicant must have completed Postgraduate degree in Ophthalmology (MS or MD or DNB or Post DO DNB) to apply for all fellowship programs
- Applicants awaiting for the PG Results are not eligible to apply for the Fellowship
- For Comprehensive Ophthalmology, candidates who have completed Diploma in Ophthalmology will also be considered
- The age limit of the applicant to apply for all the fellowships is 35 years
- Applicants who are under Government bond or compulsory rural service will have to submit ‘No Objection Certificate’ during the time of examination
- All the selected fellows will need to submit NOC from their state Medical Council which is mandate for submitting during the Fellowship induction, without which the joining will not be agreeable
- Only Indian candidates can apply for long term fellowships at Sankara Eye Foundation, India.
- If Applicants beyond 35 years and those awaiting for PG result apply and submit the form then their application form fee shall NOT BE REFUNDED.
Guidelines to submit the application:

Selection Process:
- The seat matrix for each selection would vary based on the training capability of the current period and feedback from the mentor and previous fellows
- Entrance exam followed by one to one interview is mandatory for selection of candidates.

Sankara Geuder Competence Centre (SGCC)
Though nearly 900 ophthalmologists trained in India every year, it is estimated that India needs 25,000 ophthalmologists by 2020 to achieve goals of VISION 2020: The Right to Sight. Apart from increasing the number of fresh ophthalmic surgeons, it is imperative that the productivity of practicing ophthalmologists be increased significantly so that they function more efficiently and effectively.
A unique partnership between a leading European Ophthalmic Equipment manufacturer Geuder, AG of Heidelberg, Germany and SAV has helped create an infrastructure that would provide training for ophthalmologists in Cataract Surgery and VR techniques under supervision. It would also provide for training of Biomedical Engineering field staff and paramedical staff of users in a clinical environment.
CURRENT TRAINING OFFERED:
Phacoemulsification Short term Training (Ophthalmologists)
This is an on-going programme with over 40 surgeons trained from as far as Bangalore, Patna, Chennai, Hubli, Bagalkote, Koppal, Nammakal, Mysore, Calicut, Bijapur, Mangalore, Kolar and Rajasthan. The training is offered in 2 modules the basic course for 1 month, requires the surgeon to be proficient in tunneling, rhexis and hydro procedures. The surgeons should have a minimum experience 300 MSICS and a Post-graduation Qualification recognized by MCI.
An advanced course of 15 Days is offered to surgeons familiar with phacoemulsification who wish to hone their techniques or learn more modern concepts in phacoemulsification surgery.

Vitreoretina Training (Ophthalmologists)
The department offers a surgical retina fellowship in Vitreoretina and ocular oncology affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. There are 2 intakes – July and December.
Leveraging on the expertise of our faculty and the large variety of cases handled at our hospital, we offer observer ships to vitreoretinal surgeons from India and overseas.
The institution also provides a wet lab experience and allows surgeons to train and practise under supervision conversion to 23G Vitrectomy.

Operation Theatre Techniques Training (Paramedical)

Diploma in Vision Care Technician
This diploma programme is designed with NCVRT to provide the much needed human resource needed to assist the ophthalmologist in the Outpatient Clinics, Operation Theatre and during Outreach Screening Camps. The specialised programme makes the candidate focus on various aspects of eye care delivery with an almost assured placement in eye care institutions.
Eligibility: Female candidates who have completed PU/10+2.
Duration of the course: 2 years (1+1)
- During the first year, you will be mostly listening to the lectures in a digitalized class room with adequate training on curriculum based skills.
- In Second year, you will became an Intern, where the opportunity to practice hands on activities under supervisory.

COURSE CONTENT:
- Basic knowledge to interpret the eye examination report
- Basic understanding about the visual prognosis of major ocular conditions lead to vision Impairment
- Conduct functional vision assessment and write detailed reports
- Basic understanding about the importance of early intervention for the visually impaired

AIM OF THE COURSE:
The course would allow the participant to learn the art and Science of ophthalmic dispensing which includes frame selection, lens designs, scientific fitting and trouble shooting in case of contingencies.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:

Operation Theatre Techniques Training – Primer
Ophthalmic Nursing is a highly sought after field. With the increase in the number of optical stores and chains, ophthalmic dispensing professionals are in great demand Sankara Academy of Vision, is the training arm of the Sankara Eye Foundation. Sankara is among the largest community eye care providers in the country, training over 125 allied health staff in the nuances of ophthalmology every year.
AIM OF THE COURSE
The course would allow the participant to enhance their knowledge and skills in ophthalmological operation theatre techniques in both independent and interdependent roles.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
- Enable them to function as essential members of the surgical team.
- Provide knowledge on the upkeep of basic equipment in an operation theatre
- Enhance knowledge of practise of infection control in operation theatre.
- Understand patient movement and assisting for effective outcomes.
- Help develop administrative and leadership abilities in community eye care.
- Instil confidence amongst trainees permitting them to function effectively in the ophthalmic operation theatre.
CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION
- Candidate should have completed a diploma or degree in nursing from a recognised institution.
- Candidate should be comfortable communicating in English
- Candidates with Operation Theatre experience would be preferred.

Optometry Internship (1 year) Certificate
INTERNSHIP IN OPTOMETRY
Our Optometry Internship Course offers a comprehensive curriculum aimed at providing students with hands-on experience, clinical competence, and professional development opportunities. Through clinical rotations in diverse settings, participants will refine their skills in vision screenings, eye exams, and diagnostic techniques, while also gaining insight into various treatment modalities and patient care strategies.
Interns get an opportunity to practice in optometry specialties like Contact Lens, Vision therapy, Low vision, and Vision Rehabilitation.
