AWARD OF DIPLOMA:

On successful completion of course, acceptance of thesis and passing of final theory and practical examination conducted by the NBE, it confirms award of diploma, DNB.

PEDAGOGY:

Primary outcome measure of DNB programme at SECI is proficiency in diagnosis and management of eye diseases of public health importance and the common eye problems. The secondary measure is exposure to diagnosis and management of eyes related to various subspecialties, rare eye diseases and relevant systemic diseases. Additional outcome measure is participation in research, publication and presentations.

The knowledge and skill necessary to achieve the above measures, is imparted through
1) Posting in OPD, ward, OT, refraction unit, orthoptics and binocular vision units, lab and peripheral services;
2) Hands-on in clinical work-up, diagnostics, lab investigations and wet lab;
3) Participation in didactic lectures, seminars, interdisciplinary meetings, journal clubs and case presentations;
4) Participation in research, publication, professional meetings, workshops, conferences and CMEs.

The Sankara Eye Foundation India Training Program in Ophthalmology is a highly regarded ophthalmology program in India. Residents are selected amongst those who have completed their post-graduation in ophthalmology from any of the centres recognized by the Medical Council of India. Sankara Geuder Competence Centre (SGCC)

Though nearly 900 ophthalmologists trained in India every year, it is estimated that India needs 25,000 ophthalmologists by 2020 to achieve goals of VISION 2020: The Right to Sight. Apart from increasing the number of fresh ophthalmic surgeons, it is imperative that the productivity of practicing ophthalmologists be increased significantly so that they function more efficiently and effectively.

A unique partnership between a leading European Ophthalmic Equipment manufacturer Geuder, AG of Heidelberg, Germany and SAV has helped create an infrastructure that would provide training for ophthalmologists in Cataract Surgery and VR techniques under supervision. It would also provide for training of Biomedical Engineering field staff and paramedical staff of users in a clinical environment.

CURRENT TRAINING OFFERED:

Phacoemulsification Short term Training (Ophthalmologists)

This is an on-going programme with over 40 surgeons trained from as far as Bangalore, Patna, Chennai, Hubli, Bagalkote, Koppal, Nammakal, Mysore, Calicut, Bijapur, Mangalore, Kolar and Rajasthan. The training is offered in 2 modules the basic course for 1 month, requires the surgeon to be proficient in tunneling, rhexis and hydro procedures. The surgeons should have a minimum experience 300 MSICS and a Post-graduation Qualification recognized by MCI.

An advanced course of 15 Days is offered to surgeons familiar with phacoemulsification who wish to hone their techniques or learn more modern concepts in phacoemulsification surgery.

Vitreoretina Training (Ophthalmologists)

The department offers a surgical retina fellowship in Vitreoretina and ocular oncology affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. There are 2 intakes – July and December.

Leveraging on the expertise of our faculty and the large variety of cases handled at our hospital, we offer observer ships to vitreoretinal surgeons from India and overseas.

The institution also provides a wet lab experience and allows surgeons to train and practise under supervision conversion to 23G Vitrectomy.

Diploma in Vision Care Technician

This diploma programme is designed with NCVRT to provide the much needed human resource needed to assist the ophthalmologist in the Outpatient Clinics, Operation Theatre and during Outreach Screening Camps. The specialised programme makes the candidate focus on various aspects of eye care delivery with an almost assured placement in eye care institutions.

Eligibility: Female candidates who have completed PU/10+2.

Duration of the course: 2 years (1+1)

During the first year, you will be mostly listening to the lectures in a digitalized class room with adequate training on curriculum based skills.
In Second year, you will became an Intern, where the opportunity to practice hands on activities under supervisory.

The course would allow the participant to enhance their knowledge and skills in ophthalmological operation theatre techniques in both independent and interdependent roles.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

Enable them to function as essential members of the surgical team.
Provide knowledge on the upkeep of basic equipment in an operation theatre
Enhance knowledge of practise of infection control in operation theatre.
Understand patient movement and assisting for effective outcomes.

The external internship program would provide excellent inclusive exposure to both the clinical and academic avenues of all specialties of Optometry. The Sankara Eye Foundation, India has one of its assets, Sankara College of Optometry, Bangalore. Training Program in Optometry is a highly observed Optometry program in India. The training programs have a good repute from its association with the full range of clinical, research and educational experiences, and most importantly, the sincere commitment of the faculty to the student.

Optometry students are selected amongst those who have completed their 3 year education in bachelors of Optometry education from any recognised Optometry institute. Students benefit from weekly hands-on training, monthly and quarterly practical evaluations and a good exposure to various optometry specialities. The goal of the program is to train highly competent and ethical Optometrists who can contribute to the field and help reduce the burden of curable blindness.

We appreciate you considering Sankara Eye Hospitals, for your training requirement. Please read the note under before you proceed.

This form would take under 10 minutes for you to complete.
Before you start filling this form please ensure you have with you soft copies (Scanned) of your passport photograph, letter of previous studies (2 copies) and a screen shot of the receipt of the fee paid.
We request you to please ensure all data is correct as this would form the basis for our future communication.
The interview and exam is going to be an online mode which will be held in August 2021.
Selected candidates will have to join the program on the given joining date with all respective documents.
A non-refundable fee of Rs.1250 will be charged as registration charges.

Eligibility for external internship:

Applicant must have completed 3 years of Optometry education in bachelors in Optometry in reputed college of Optometry to apply for external internship program

Guidelines to submit the application:

Follow the instructions mentioned in the Application form.
The external internship application form is available on the google doc link https://forms.gle/nvMcXq6EPD5DqjFg6 along with all other details.
Applications have to be submitted using the above Google Link along with Application fees.
Incomplete applications will be rejected.
Application processing fee of Rs. 1250/- can be paid through online transfer or direct payment.
Submitted application will be further processed on receipt of the application fee.
Application fee will not be refunded for any reason / under any circumstances.

Important Note:

All required documents are to be enclosed along with the filled Application form.

From Indian applicants:

10^th standard marks cards
12^th / intermediate/ PUC certificate
BSc Optometry 1^st , 2^nd & 3^rd year result certificates

All mandatory fields (*) to be completed with valid information / data.

Selection Process:

Entrance exam followed by one to one interview is mandatory for selection of candidates
All the Applicants shall be sent communication mails about the selection & exam date
If the candidate fails to report on the scheduled date for entrance exams / interview without any intimation, application will be rejected
After selection, if the candidate fails to report on the scheduled date, after getting the consent, application will be rejected
