Sankara Eye Hospital Organizes Workshop for World Children’s Day

Bangalore, November 21, 2016: Commemorating the World Day for Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and World Children’s Day, Sankara Eye Hospital, Bengaluru in association with Essilor Vision Foundation organized Child Sexual Abuse sensitization workshop for the children of Government Higher Primary School, Aralumallige, Doddaballapur at the school premises.  The ideology behind the workshop was to educate and create awareness among the children on Child Sexual Abuse – prevention and precautions.

Mr.Hanumanthappa, Block Education Officer (BEO), Mr. Dharma Prasad- Programme Manager, Essilor Vision Foundation and Mr. Vikram Chaudhuri- Unit Head, Sankara Eye Hospital, Bengaluru led the workshop which was attended by around 250 students.

Also, ‘Nana Kannu’, a Children’s program by Sankara Eye Hospital screened around 260 children out of which 20 of them were found with vision defect. They were referred to visit the hospital for further check-up and few were prescribed to wear glasses. Moreover, the treatment for those children who will visit the hospital will be performed free of cost.

“The purpose for sensitization workshop was the main focus and we at the hospital felt the need not only to screen or test the eyes of the children but also step up the ladder and to support them on other aspects that are most essential in their daily lives.” said Mr. Vikram Chaudhuri- Unit Head, Sankara Eye Hospital, Bengaluru.

As per national statistics report, around 53% children in India are abused and are mostly from the rural region… The program was planned primarily for the children who are vulnerable in every section of the society especially the rural areas.
